HOW IT WORKS
IBM Express Desktop Management Services addresses several key desktop administrative tasks. Unlike point solutions - which typically are client-server applications with their own deployment and management headaches - IBM Desktop Management Services solutions are delivered via the Web, so they are easier to deploy and manage. The services are designed to support your end users wherever they are (in branch offices, at home or on the road). And the Web-based interface allows administrators to access the management control center from virtually anywhere.

The services are designed to reduce the time required to manage your PCs, as well as to automate the delivery of the software, patches and virus definitions needed to keep PCs secure and operating in tip-top shape. They also can assist you in tracking hardware and software resources, helping you to lower your total cost of ownership.

IBM Express Desktop Management Services modules are available in two ways:
  • As software services, which are available as 1) a primary bundle of four software services, 2) the primary bundle plus any or all of three optional software services, or 3) a full service bundle of all seven software services. All software services are administered by your own IT support staff.
  • As managed services, which are available as 1) a primary bundle of three taskfocused services, 2) the primary bundle plus one or two optional managed services, or 3) a full bundle of all seven software services, plus all five managed services. All managed services are administered by IBM or a qualified IBM Business Partner

ASSET DISCOVERY

SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION
What it does: installs software according to standard software packages*; simplifies the deployment of new software; allows distributions to be made in off-peak hours; and throttles downloads to help preserve bandwidth
Anticipated benefits:
  • Reduces the time required to roll out applications, resulting in greater productivity of end users
  • Helps determine compliance with software licensing agreements

* Please note that the service performs only the distribution function. It does not prepare the software packages - that task has to be performed by your IT department by American Technology Solutions, Inc. or IBM at additional cost.

PATCH MANAGEMENT
What it does: distributes Microsoft® operating system (OS) security patches and application software patches consistent with your IT and business objectives
