EXPRESS MANAGED SOLUTIONS
IBM Express Managed Security Services for firewall and VPN Network security that’s simplified and cost-efficient Connecting with confidence Your small or midsize business probably depends on network connectivity to communicate and compete in the global marketplace. You also likely need to enable dispersed locations and remote employees to access your corporate network. But connectivity across public networks has inherent risks. Hackers and automated network sniffers constantly scan the Internet for vulnerable systems. And insufficiently encrypted traffic can expose your confidential information. If you're connected to a public network, you probably already have a network firewall in place - and you probably learned that such network protectors aren't typically designed with small and midsize businesses in mind. They're complex and difficult to install and configure. And they must be fine-tuned and updated regularly to defend against evolving threats. All these management tasks require IT staff, a costly resource that's often in short supply. There's a better way. IBM Express Managed Security Services for firewall and VPN is a managed service designed to help you protect your network while reducing maintenance requirements and costs. The service provides an IBM hardware appliance that can be set up easily at your location. You get professional 24x7 management of the appliance. And a Web-based interface allows you to customize security policies, if necessary. In addition to the network firewall aspects of the service, you can choose to take advantage of optional complementary capabilities: virtual private network (VPN) services and redundant standby hardware for mission-critical environments. Designed for our small and midsize clients, the managed network appliance is available in two sizes: for 1 to 100 employees and for 101 to 250 employees. With its ease of installation, simplified management and predictable per-month fee, IBM Express Managed Security Services for firewall and VPN is designed to help you protect your network and offers remote access that delivers significant value over traditional security solutions. Simplified for your needs Security-rich features Cost-competitive Simplified for your needs Traditional network appliances can be difficult and time-consuming for even experienced IT professionals to install. When your company has multiple dispersed locations, the complexities and costs are compounded. The IBM Express Managed Security Services for firewall and VPN service provides a hardware appliance that is designed to arrive ready to be set up by almost anyone and running in as little as an hour. No specific IT experience is needed. IBM provides remote configuration and ongoing management of the appliance as part of the service. That includes automated, 24x7 delivery of device software, firmware and security updates - helping to enhance the effectiveness of your network security without any need for an in-house IT staff. Back To Top Security-rich features IBM Express Managed Security Services for firewall and VPN uses IBM tested technologies and techniques to help you protect your network and the data exchanged between your dispersed locations and remote employees. The firewall uses stateful inspection technology to inspect the entire data packet being transmitted - as opposed to "packet filtering," which looks only at the packet's header to make filtering decisions. The appliance software tracks each attempted connection to help determine whether it is authorized and to block suspicious traffic from entering your network. You can make personalized decisions about traffic filtering - including bandwidth allocation to support quality-of-service (QoS) demands - for IBM appliances installed on the network using the service's intuitive Web-based management interface. Setup and management of VPN accounts are performed using the same interface, which can be done by you, IBM or your IBM Business Partner. IBM pushes software, firmware and security updates to the appliance automatically, 24x7. If the device should fail, the service includes no-cost delivery of a replacement unit within 24 hours. A redundant standby unit is an optional feature of the service. Back To Top Cost-competitive The initial purchase cost of a network appliance shouldn't be the only consideration when choosing a solution to help you protect your network. That's because the hardware cost is only part of the total cost of ownership. Other vendors will charge you extra for next-day replacements, 24x7 automatic updates, additional VPN licenses and other add-ons - features that are included in the monthly fee for IBM's solution. Add to those costs the need for trained onsite IT staff. When you tally the potential expenses of a typical network solution, the total cost of the IBM service is likely much lower.
