After setup, there is essentially no ongoing intervention or management necessary on your part. The service automatically transmits backup files — even backups of open files and changing databases — to an offsite vault where files are encrypted. In the event of a data emergency, recovery of current and historic files can be performed over the Internet from virtually anywhere using a standard Web browser. You can select the data you want to recover from a catalog of your archived file versions. Depending on how often you have configured your files to be backed up, you can restore up to just before your data loss. For larger restores such as the loss of an entire server or an even larger-scale disaster, IBM can return properly designated data to your site or to a designated alternate site via a network attached storage (NAS) device.
